Shaun of the Dead meets Walking Dead in new BBC zombie series

Everyone knows that zombies are the new vamps right now—even the BBC, which has just announced it’s also making a brand-new zombie drama series called In the Flesh that looks like it’ll mix some good ol’ Shaun of the Dead fun with some Walking Dead horror and drama.

The upcoming three-part, 90-minutes-each drama series will air on BBC Three, which also happens to be Being Human’s home — you know, the little show that has a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living together? The one that also spawned a successful U.S. adaptation? You know what we’re talking about.

Written by a young new writer named Dominic Mitchell (the guy was discovered through the BBC’s Northern Voices competition), the show will follow the same format as auntie Beeb’s wildly successful series Sherlock.

The BBC says In The Flesh:

…begins after the Zombie Uprising has been quelled by the Human Volunteer Force and life is starting to return to normal. Any surviving zombies have been captured, medicated, held in an NHS holding facility in Norfolk and are being slowly re-integrated back into society, with the help of contact lenses and cover up mousse. The story follows teenager Kieran Walker and boldly goes where no zombie drama has gone before.

Yep, that sounds like a totally smashing idea, right?

As we said, zombies are the new vamps right now: There’s even a Twilight-like zombie romantic movie that’ll hit the screens next year called Warm Bodies, starring X-Men: First Class’s Nicholas Hoult.

Then there was also Zombieland back in 2009, which is supposed to be getting a sequel; and there’s also that little Brat Pitt movie called World War Z that’s also coming up in 2013.

Yep. Zombies rule, man.

While we’re saying that, there’s no news yet on exactly when In the Flesh will air on the BBC, but we’ll let you know as soon as we know anything. What do you guys think? Are you going to be looking forward to that new series?
