Rumor of the Day: New Doctor Who companion found?

Could we be looking at the next dr who companion?? MaybeBy Nathalie Caron, Source: Blastr.com

With the recent, sad news that Doctor Who companions Amy (Karen Gillan) and Rory (Arthur Darville) were leaving the TARDIS next season, it was only a matter of time before rumors about who the new companion might be would come up. And they have.

“The final days of the Ponds are coming,” Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat said back in mid-december. “I’m not telling you when or how, but that story is going to come to a heartbreaking end.”

He also added that The Doctor was going to meet “a new friend.”

According to Bleeding Cool’s ”multiple sources,” that new friend could come in the form of British comedy actress Miranda Hart—the star, creator and writer of the hit BBC sitcom Miranda—who may be stepping into the TARDIS as The Doctor’s (Matt Smith) new full-time companion, in the wake of Amy and Rory’s departure.

The comedic actress, who is a whopping 6’1”tall (we can almost see her towering over Smith’s Doctor), is no stranger to all that traveling in space nonsense since she starred in a U.K. sci-fi-comedy series called Hyperdrive with Sean of the Dead and Paul alum Nick Frost a few years ago.

Hart is set to make her first ”serious” acting debut in a BBC drama titled Call the Midwife.

But wait: It doesn’t stop there.

Bleeding Cool also claims that there are have been whispers that actor James Corden—Who fans will already know him as loveable Craig Owens from two previous Doctor Who episodes: the hilarious season five ep. ”The Lodger,” and, more recently, the penultimate season six episode ”Closing Time”—has also been tapped to return next season.

However, Corden may simply have been approached for another one-off episode only and may not be in the running for full-time companionship at all.

(Though Smith and Corden have awesome chemistry together, we’re not sure how we’d feel with Craig on board the TARDIS as a full-time companion. Unless he brings his infant son ”Stormageddon, Dark Lord of All” on board. Kidding.)

Since nothing has been confirmed, we urge you to take all this with a grain of salt. Still, what do you think of the possibilities?
