Pixar Announce New Film, Reveal Title For Another

Monster University next on the list for Pixarby Brendon Connelly, Source: BleedingCool.com

While Pete Docter‘s upcoming Pixar movie about “a journey into the human mind and creative process” is being kept as mysterious as before – we have that basic premise and a June 19, 2015 release date and nothing else – Pixar have started revealing little bits of new info about the other films on their slate.

Coming before Docter’s movie is The Good Dinosaur, directed by Bob Peterson, the other director of Up. This is the one is set in a world where that infamous cataclysmic meteor missed planet earth and the dinosaurs didn’t die out, evolving alongside mammals and, in the present day, sharing the planet with humans. We knew about this one already, but we didn’t have a title. It’s easy to speculate about what The Good Dinosaur means, and my mind went racing to the parable of the Samaritan, and ideas of a human-dinosaur apartheid, but we’ll have to wait and see if it really is as simple as that.

That film we can expect on May 2014 – so, after this year’s Brave and next year’s Monsters University.

As yet undated, and likely to be in pretty early development right now, is the next film from Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich. Besides the fact that Unkrich was working on another film – as opposed to leaving the studio, or just spending his days playing with scooters and paper aeroplanes – we knew nothing much about this film at all.

But now we have, at least, the basic setting for the story, thanks to The Wrap.

According to Pixar’s presentation at Cinemacon, the Unkrich film is going to be about Dia de los Muertos, the Mexican day of the dead. Not to be confused with Day of the Dead or Jorge R. Gutierrez and Guillermo Del Toro’s own animated film about this very thing, currently in the works at Reel FX.

That’s right: there are two animated films about the day of the dead in the works and neither has anything to do with Tim Burton. I’m as surprised as everybody else in this branch of Hot Topic.
