The CW has decided they want more Supernatural and Nikita. The network has brought the episode order for both series from 22 to 23 episodes for the new fall season. Two additional episodes of Gossip Girl and 90210 have also been ordered for their seasons, bringing their orders up from 22 to 24.
The returning fall show left out of the episode expansion is The Vampire Diaries, due to that show’s extensive post-production requirements. It’s also likely The CW isn’t looking to further exhaust co-showrunner Kevin Williamson, who also is behind the network’s new witchy series, The Secret Circle.
Supernatural is heading into its seventh season, while Nikita will be in its second year. Both series premiere Friday, Sept. 23, with Nikita at 8 p.m. ET and Supernatural at 9.
Apparently adding additional episodes to the four shows is a piece of the plan by new CW president Mark Pedowitz to limit the number of reruns during the season. Pedowitz has also started to build up his mid-season orders.
Does more Supernatural and Nikita put you in a happy place?
