Fringe To Get Fifth And Final Season Of Thirteen Episodes

A deal has been closed for Fringe to get thirteen final episodes to round out its story and wrap up nicely. Well, in theory at least. Bad Robot television had a much longer to prepare for the ending of Lost and that still left most viewers at least a little niggled.

It seems that Bad Robot will have dropped their price to ensure Fox could – or rather, would – afford the new series. This will likely translate into lower budgets for the episodes, but it’s not necessarily so.

And now it’s all coming to a close, I’m sure some accountant somewhere has started drooling into a sales projection for the Complete Series DVD and Blu-ray.

Deadline have a quote from the show’s executive producer and co-creator, JJ Abrams:

We are thrilled and beyond grateful that Fox – and our fans – have made the impossible possible: Fringe will continue into a fifth season that will allow the series to conclude in a wild and thrilling way.

Yeah, well done fans.

I have to say, I am pleased that there’s enough room here for the show’s producers and writers to bring things to a reasonable conclusion. Several times now I’ve seen genuinely engaging story arcs snapped off at just an episode or two’s notice.

As there are just thirteen episodes, Fringe won’t take a whole season to wrap up. It remains to be seen, then, where in the calendar Fox decide to schedule it, and what they do with the other half of the “TV year.”

I was going to make a “joke” about Fringe getting cut off but Britain’s more or less asleep right now and our American cousins call that bit of the hair the bangs, right? Please tell me that’s right. I’ve complemented enough women on their lovely bangs that I need it to be right.
