Eve Myles, who plays kick-ass Torchwood character Gwen Cooper, thinks neither she nor Torchwood will be part of Doctor Who’s upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations in 2013. Why? Because she thinks Torchwood’s more adult themes would be inappropriate for Who.
Talking to the The Independent, Myles said:
I wouldn’t have thought so. We have lots of adult themes running in Torchwood and I think it would be inappropriate for us to have anything to do with Doctor Who because it’s predominantly a family programme. I think that where Torchwood is, it deals with darker subjects and I think inter-mixing them, if they want to do that, then fine but I can tell you that I’m not involved in it—they won’t give me guns or a bazooka.
Uh, just wait a moment here. Just like our colleagues over at Doctor Who TV, we think Myles has gotten a sudden case of amnesia and fogotten her gun-toting ways in ”The Stolen Earth” and ”Journey’s End”—two Doctor Who episodes.
If you’ll recall, both she and Ianto Jones (Gareth David-Lloyd) were using (and firing) machine guns to try and prevent those pesky little evil space pepper pots the Daleks from entering the Torchwood Hub. And if memory serves us right, the bullets were pretty much flying everywhere. Yeah. We guess she COMPLETELY FORGOT ABOUT THAT.
Maybe someone should send her the DVDs—or even the picture below—in order to refresh her memory?
Still, we have to agree that it would be highly unlikely to see Gwen Cooper make an appearance on the Doctor Who 50th anniversary special. Unless, perhaps, a certain Captain Jack Harkness (John Barrowman) ultimately makes an appearance—and even then, chances are probably gonna be slim.
What do you think?
