Fact: Ryan Reynolds was pretty damn cool as Deadpool in the first Wolverine movie. Other fact: Almost every one of us hated how the character eventually turned out toward the end of the film and how he … um … died. But fear not: The character will be redeemed in his still-in-the-works upcoming solo outing.
“Yes, he was treated totally wrong in the Wolverine film, and yes, we will redeem him,” promised producer Lauren Shuler Donner during a press junket for the release of X-Men: First Class on DVD and Blu-Ray due out Friday, Sept. 9 (tomorrow, folks).
With Ryan Reynolds still keen to play Marvel’s badass mercenary Wade Wilson, aka Deadpool, and visual effects artist Tim Miller attached to direct it, the film seems to be on the right track to finally appear on the big screen. And we’re 100 percent looking forward to it.
Shuler Donner says:
“We’re working on getting it ready, and presenting some things to the studio, cause we’re gonna give it a little bit of a different look. It’s a different kind of movie. If you know ‘Deadpool’…it’s true to ‘Deadpool’. So you know, it’ll be violent, and outrageous, and funny, and all that. So we’re sort of putting it all together now.”
We don’t know about you, but that sounds awfully good to us.
But if you thought Green Lantern’s massive flop (don’t worry, we still love you, Ryan Reynolds) at the box office would deter Schuler from wanting the Canadian actor back as Deadpool, you couldn’t be more wrong.
The producer stressed that they still want Reynolds to play the role he embodied so well in Wolverine: “Absolutely, yeah. I can’t imagine … who else could play Wade Wilson?”
Who else indeed?
Are you now happily looking forward to seeing a ”redeemed” Deadpool on the big screen? Do you have faith in Lauren Shuler Donner and company?
