After a one-shot airing in December, BBC Four is ordering three new episodes of its Dirk Gently series. Based on Douglas Adams‘ novel, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, the show garnered decent ratings and buzz to merit a few more installments. Starring Stephen Mangan as the title character who is quite possibly a fraud, the first episode was written by Howard Overman (who also created the awesome superhero series Misfits, which you should watch online as soon as superhumanly possible), who will also write for these new episodes. Producer Chris Carey says:
“What the hope is, because there’s only two-and-a-half books, is that we can cherry pick little bits from them over many, many episodes … Hopefully, over the course of the series, we’ll be able to take little bits, and keep doing so for a lot longer than if Dirk Gently had been adapted straight from the books.”
