The director of Iron Man and Cowboys & Aliens, the co-creator of Fringe and the co-creator of Robot Chicken assembled together for one project. It sounds like an unlikely superhero team-up, but news broke today that the trio is working on a new sci-fi pilot for ABC, set in the White House. Is this the next big government conspiracy show?
This sci-fi dream team (which also includes X2 co-writer Michael Dougherty and Orci’s writing and producing partner Alex Kurtzman) has come together to produce Ex-Comm, a series focusing on a new president and his elite executive committee (“ex-comm”) of advisors that focus on strange happenings and “conspiracy theory truths” throughout America. If it sounds like The X-Files meets The West Wing, that’s exactly what they want you to think. The idea is to create a sci-fi drama with a sense of humor that blends sci-fi and supernatural suspense with political intrigue.
The idea originated with Green and Dougherty, who then pitched it to Orci and Kurtzman’s production company. Orci and Kurtzman got on board, then tapped Favreau while they worked on Cowboys & Aliens together. All four are signed on to be executive producers for the series (along with Orci and Kurtzman’s producing partner Heather Kadin and Green’s Robot Chicken pal Matthew Senreich), and Favreau himself is set to direct the pilot.
No word yet on when we might see footage from this bad boy, but it’s hard not to get excited about a project with this many big names behind it.
