Craig McCracken, creator of The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, is about to make his long awaited return to TV. Wander Over Yonder was rather discreetly announced by Disney this week, a new animated comedy series for sometime in 2012-13.
The show’s lead character, Wander, made his debut on a T-shirt, patch and sketchbook that McCracken sold at conventions. The artist has been developing the show for a little while, and it was pretty smart of Disney to snap it up, I think.
Here’s the plot blurb:
Wander is an overly-optimistic intergalactic traveler who, along with his loyal but bullish steed, Sylvia, goes from planet to planet helping people to live free and have fun, all against the evil reign of Lord Hater and his army of Watchdogs.
Jack McBrayer and Tom Kenny are amongst the voice cast. I can’t imagine McBrayer will be playing Lord Hater but you never know.
And here’s an old image of Wander, himself, described by McCracken as a “nomadic, hippie, muppet man.”
As you can see, this illustration dates back to ’07 and is likely one of McCracken’s first images of the character. We’ll have to wait and see how he might have evolved on his way to Disney, though my guess is he’ll be looking much the same.
Can’t wait to see him moving.
