That Hulk TV series could smash onto ABC’s schedule by next year

When ABC’s fall schedule was announced, there was one oft-rumored project that was conspicuously absent: The small-screen reboot of Marvel’s The Hulk, with none other than Guillermo del Toro (Hellboy) attached to produce. Well, we’re happy to report that Bruce Banner’s latest adventure ain’t dead yet.

ABC entertainment president Paul Lee told The Hollywood Reporter that he still wants to “see some Marvel projects come to television.” When pressed about the Hulk project, Lee noted that it’s definitely still coming—and could come smashing into living rooms by next fall.

“Hulk is in development,” he said. “It wasn’t going to be ready this season, but we hope it’s going to be ready for next season.”

A Hulk series has been in the works at ABC for a while now, and it seems Mark Ruffalo’s popular turn as the big green rage monster in The Avengers might do more than anything else to help get the project off the ground.

Obviously, a Hulk TV series would almost certainly be done outside of the big-screen Marvel continuity, but Joss Whedon’s take on the character definitely showed the nuance and potential that is there for some Banner-based storytelling. Here’s hoping we’ll get a bit more depth than Lou Ferrigno’s turn as The Incredible Hulk in the cheesily awesome late-1970s series of the same name.

Sound off: Would you watch a weekly series based on The Hulk?
