Some confirmations and a couple of surprises made up the official press release promising the imminent start of production on Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. Personally, I’m still surprised by the fact it’s happening at all.
Right off the bat Dimension films want us to know that Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba will be coming back for more, which leaves a question mark hanging over the other original cast members we’d been expecting. Still plenty of time for the veterans to sign on of course – the film won’t start shooting until later in the Summer, all set for the freshly coined October 4th, 2013 release date.
Here’s the bit of the announcement I really wasn’t expecting, though:
The original SIN CITY broke new ground with its iconic stylish look and grossed over $160 million worldwide. FRANK MILLER’S SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR will not only bring fans back to the world that Rodriguez and Miller created, but will also add a new dimension by bringing their unique visual style to life in 3D.
Huh. 3D. What was it that made me so certain this would be in 2D? The very graphic style of the original strips, maybe. Still, it will be fascinating to see that bold world beefed up with a bit more volume to it.
There will be plenty of new roles to be cast for this follow-up. According to Dimension films:
The remaining cast will be announced shortly with some huge names expected to fill the roles of Sin Ciy’s newest characters yet to be seen on the big screen.
The most crucial of which, perhaps, is that of the Dame to Kill For herself, Ava Lord. Angelina Jolie is both too expensive and too busy, I’m sure, so that old rumour can stay down. A couple-few years back I was told that Rachel Weisz was being favoured for the part… will that tip finally pan out? I certainly wouldn’t complain if it did.
