Ridley Scott says his new Blade Runner film will be a sequel

Blade Runner Sequel is on it's wayBy Nathalie Caron, Source: Blastr.com

Back in August, we told you that Ridley Scott was on board to direct a follow-up to his sci-fi masterpiece, Blade Runner. But what we didn’t know yet then was whether the new movie would be a sequel or a prequel. Well, it seems that Scott has decided to go down the sequel route.

In a recent interview with Speakeasy, movie god Scott confirmed once again that he was directing the next Blade Runner film, and revealed that his new pet project was “liable to be a sequel.”

The director, who’s just finished filming on the highly anticipated ”Alien-Not-Alien” prequel Prometheus, also said, “I think I’m close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver. We’re quite a long way in, actually.”

Scott also confirmed that not only would none of the original cast be returning (understandably), but not even the character of Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), the blade runner who hunted down Rutger Hauer’s replicant ass, would be in the new movie.

“Even though people think it’s a cool Philip Marlowe film with Deckard played by Harrison Ford,” Scott says, “the film is very much about humanity.”

So what what will that eventually mean for the sequel? Will Scott examine what makes anyone—be they humans or replicants—actually ”human”?

And does this mean that all our questions about whether Deckard himself was a replicant will never get answered?
