Hancock 2 could still happen. Peter Berg and Will Smith really want to make a sequel to the 2008 superhero film. According to Berg, a followup is in the works and Smith is “interested” in reprising the title role.
Peter Berg, who’s also the director of this summer’s Battleship, recently gave Comic Book Movie an update on Hancock 2.
“We’ve been talking about the sequel between us, Will Smith, [producers] Michael Mann and Akiva Goldsman and myself,” said Berg. “We’re all interested, but we literally just have trouble getting into the same room at the same time. We did have a series of meetings last year and started to hash out an idea for sequel—and Will Smith actually had the idea—so I think it will happen, it’s just a question of timing.”
Since Smith revisited Men in Black, we’re sure another Hancock can’t be too far behind. When the film was originally released in theaters, it grossed over $600 million worldwide. But despite its blockbuster status, Hancock had its fair share of problems. It received lukewarm reviews and earned an underwhelming 40 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
Perhaps Hancock 2 could succeed where the original failed? Are you interested in a sequel?
