It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s Super—oh, no it’s not! Superman’s big-screen return has been delayed. Warner Bros. just pushed back Zack Synder’s Man of Steel, which means we have to wait even longer to see Henry Cavill in that famous cape and tights.
The original release date for Man of Steel was set for December 2012, but now it’s been pushed to June 14, 2013. That’s an extra six months tacked on to an already tedious wait time. At first glance, this is a frustrating move on Warner Bros.’ part—but we think there’s a method to their madness.
The studio will already have its hands full next December with the release of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. So maybe they want to put all of their marketing energy into the Peter Jackson flick before taking on Man of Steel?
So far, the only major comic book movie to stake its claim on summer 2013 is Marvel’s Iron Man 3, which opens on May 3. But other than that, the competition is clear. We’re sure the schedule will fill out over the next year, so we think it’s good that Warner Bros. decided to draw its line in the sand now!
What do you think about Man of Steel being pushed to 2013? Good or bad idea?
