Mac and Me Movie Review

Mac and Me movie review time!

Mac and Me. Cult classic, infomercial, E.T. ripoff or something more? Considered one of the worst films ever made, Mac and Me has entered the realm of cult classic. But, what is a cult classic?

A cult classic is a film, or other work, that has gained a dedicated, passionate fanbase. They often develop an elaborate subculture around it. These films are typically unconventional. They may not have been initially successful or well-received by mainstream audiences. They often feature elements that resonate with a specific, niche group, leading to repeated viewings, dialogue quoting, and audience participation.

Key Characteristics of Cult Classics:

Dedicated Fanbase: Cult classics are defined by a fervent and devoted following. They often form a subculture with rituals like quoting dialogue, audience participation (like interactive screenings of The Rocky Horror Picture Show), and elaborate cosplay.

Unconventional Nature: These films often deviate from mainstream norms, sometimes being transgressive, experimental, or drawing from genres like horror, sci-fi, or exploitation.

Initial Lack of Success: Many cult classics were not commercially successful upon their initial release. Accordingly, they gained popularity later through word-of-mouth and dedicated fan engagement.

Subjectivity of Taste: The appeal of a cult classic is often subjective, with some films celebrated for qualities that might be considered “good” or “bad” by different viewers.

Blurring Lines: The term “cult classic” is increasingly used for mainstream films that have developed unconventional elements and devoted fan bases.

Mac and Me movie review is just one of our topics this week. We dive into our Etsy shops. Due to our office needing organizing, we spent several hours fixing it up. We listed many new items. We built a beehive. After visiting the United States on Canada Day, we learned a lesson about tariffs. Leah got new Lego. Furthermore, Shawn finally picked up a sought after G.I.Joe action figure. Our friend Tracy came near town and we drove an hour to visit her. Overall, it was a busy 2 weeks!
