There may not be an Ash in the upcoming Evil Dead remake, but the flick has booked the new male lead who will have to fill Bruce Campbell’s rather large shoes: Shiloh Fernandez (Red Riding Hood).
Fernandez likely won’t be the deadite-killer of the film, as the powers that be have already stated the new hero will be a female character this time around. But since Lily Collins (Abduction) dropped out, we don’t know exactly who that will be just yet.
The fan reaction to the reboot has been a mixed bag, with reports that large chunks of the original story will be changed in the new version, but thankfully original director Sam Raimi is still involved.
As for Fernandez’s character? No word on who he is just yet, but Variety reports it will be a lead role, likely opposite whoever replaces Collins.
Fernandez brings a bit of horror cred to the table, with his previous co-starring role in Red Riding Hood. But, I don’t know if the fact that he was also a runner-up to play Edward Cullen in the Twilight film series will help or hurt his status with Evil Dead fans.
Here’s hoping Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell know what they’re doing.
The Evil Dead reboot is tentatively slated for an April 2013 release.
What do you think? Is Fernandez the man for the job?
