With its seventh season winding down on The CW, it wouldn’t be crazy to think the low-rated but beloved monster-hunting series Supernatural might not be long for this world. But don’t tell that to series co-star Jared Padalecki, because he’s already looking forward to season eight.
Talking to Crave Online, Padalecki (Sam Winchester) said he thinks the show is doing well creatively, and that fans would continue to stick around if the series were to come back.
“Yes, frankly I do expect [a renewal],” he said. “Not for any reason, so don’t read into it, but especially [at the People’s Choice Awards] we won Best Sci-fi, Best Drama [on] network. So thank you, that’s really awesome.”
The ratings have never been fantastic for the gothic drama, but they are solid by CW standards, so that’s got to count for something.
Regardless, Padalecki said he thinks the end of the current season should inform fans as to which direction the network may be leaning.
“I hope [season seven] ends in a cliffhanger,” he said. “Because if it doesn’t, that means it’s the end of us, so I pray for a cliffhanger.”
What do you think? Would you like to see the Winchester brothers stick around for another year?
