A rumour has resurfaced that Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill are leaving Doctor Who.
Reportedly, Amy and Rory will say farewell to the Doctor in the Series 6 finale because “the writing team decided to rest the characters”.
A ‘source’ apparently told the Daily Star (possible finale spoilers): “There are going to be a lot of tears in the finale. The Doctor will set off in the TARDIS for his next adventure on his own. Amy and Rory will be reunited with their baby Melody Pond and they make a decision to stay on Earth to settle down as a family.”
The source added: “TV bosses are aware the couple have been popular so this won’t be the last you see of them.”
As rumours from the Daily Star go, this doesn’t sound too implausible. Darvill is starring in a play until 2nd October. Doctor Who’s Christmas episode is expected to begin filming next month, meaning it’s unlikely Darvill would have the time to be a part of the special.
Karen Gillan just last month confirmed she will be back for more episodes, but didn’t give specifics. It’s possible then that the pair leave at the end of Series 6 and therefore are not in the Christmas special, but they return some time in Series 7.
