George Miller says we may get more Mad Max movies than we thought

A new trilogy for Mad Max??? HmmmBy Matthew Jackson, Source: Blastr.com

After a host of delays, Mad Max creator George Miller is finally set to begin shooting the fourth installment in the series, Fury Road, next April in Namibia. As much as we love the idea of seeing this magnificent wasteland just one last time, we may not have to settle for that. Miller had already mentioned the possibility of a second new Mad Max, and now he says there’s not just two, but three.

In a new profile by the Australian Financial Review, Miller talks about how his Mad Max revival began as a single story, and gradually grew into a new trilogy.

“We started with [Fury Road], but we then started to do a second story and a third,” he says. “We’ve written the script for the second and almost finished the third. We never intended to, they were part of the exploration of the characters.”

Miller apparently had those first two flicks—the second of which is reportedly titled Furiosa—planned and even storyboarded about a decade ago, and Bleeding Cool reports those plans are still the same.

But what about this third installment? Miller doesn’t give any details as to where it will go, probably in part because he can’t give away what transpires in the first and second flicks. But the idea of an all-new Mad Max trilogy, perhaps one carried on the shoulders of Tom Hardy, is definitely intriguing.

The probability of three more Mad Max films is probably pretty dependent on just how successful Fury Road manages to be when it finally hits theaters. But if it doesn’t work out, Miller’s got another animated project in mind that he’s hopeful about, something called The Fur Brigade that he’s labeling “the most ambitious thing we’ve ever done.”
