Walt Disney Studios has released a new image of Chris Evans as Captain America from “The Avengers” and announced a release date of April 4, 2014 for Marvel Studios’ sequel to “Captain America: The First Avenger.” The sequel will pick up where “The Avengers” leaves off, continuing Steve Rogers’ partnership with Nick Fury and S.H.I.E.L.D. as the star-spangled Avenger struggles to acclimate to his role as a hero in the modern era.
Chris Evans, who was cast as Captain America in a deal for three films in addition to “The Avengers,” will reprise his role as Steve Rogers with Samuel L. Jackson onboard for an appearance as Nick Fury. In January, actor Neal McDonough noted he would return to his role as Dum Dum Dugan in the Marvel Movieverse and mentioned the “Captain America” sequel would begin production at the end of 2012. It was also reported that Marvel has narrowed its list of director candidates for the sequel to “The Italian Job” director F. Gary Gray, “The Adjustment Bureau’s” George Nolfi and brothers Anthony and Joe Russo, who are best known for directing episodes of NBC’s “Community.”
