She’s outta there! Marvel’s highly anticipated Thor sequel has lost its director. Patty Jenkins (The Killing, Monster) has officially jumped ship, leaving Thor 2 in pre-production limbo.
According to Deadline, Jenkins left the film due to “creative differences,” but she’s still on good terms with the studio. Even though she and the God of Thunder didn’t work out, she might return to direct one of Marvel’s other superhero films. And we’re not talking about a sequel; she could have first dibs on an origin story.
As for Marvel, they’re scrambling to find a replacement and are expected to fill Jenkins’ spot fairly soon. They’ll have to move fast because Thor 2 is already scheduled to hit theaters on July 26, 2013. With 2011 coming to a close, they’ll need everything ready to go by early next year.
The first Thor was directed by Kenneth Branagh and earned over $448 million at the worldwide box office. We know it’s far-fetched, but we wouldn’t mind seeing Branagh return for the sequel. Despite his obsession with slanted angles, we think he did a pretty good job. Wouldn’t you agree?
Who do you think should step in and direct Thor 2?
