343 Industries confirms Halo 4 will be an Xbox 360 game

Halo 4 will be returning to Xbox360, like there was any doubtAnnouncing Halo 4’s existence at E3 was a bold move by Microsoft. On the one hand, more Halo! On the other, what system would the next game and trilogy be for? Neither Microsoft or Halo 4’s new developers 343 Industries made any confirmations. It’s now out in the open — Halo 4 is an Xbox 360 game.

The scoop comes from NeoGaf’s member OuterWorldVoice:

Halo 4 will be on Xbox 360 and use a modified core of the Halo engine(s). Not really a singular engine since it goes through fairly radical evolutions all the time.

With just that, the Internet is all up in a tizzy. Speculation is quickly spreading that Halo 4’s confirmation for Xbox 360 is also proof that Microsoft will not launch a new Xbox in 2012.

I thought it was already obvious, but apparently people really believe that Microsoft will have a console to combat the Wii U next year. At the very least, I’m jonesing for Microsoft to show a prototype at next year’s E3, but I’m not expecting any swift launches shortly after.

From what we’ve been hearing, the earliest a new Xbox should arrive is in 2013.

Lately, I’ve been talking with a lot of 360 and PS3 owners and most just seem unenthused for a new console. Most admit that new systems will bring graphics closer with those on PC, but gamers seem content with how much their consoles can deliver — be it games, movies or movies. With the ubiquity of downloadable content and fan-adored games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, getting all hyped for a new console seems less exciting than it was a console generation ago.
