The zombie-filled set of World War Z is suddenly defenseless—because a Hungarian SWAT team recently shut down the production after learning that illegal weapons were being used on set.
World War Z is currently shooting in Budapest, where authorities were notified that a massive amount of “live weapons” were in possession. The police felt that this was “an accident waiting to happen,” so they went in and seized a variety of guns, which included sniper rifles and AK-47s. After it was all said and done, they racked up a total of 85 firearms.
The weapons used weren’t supposed to be fully functioning, but in this case, they were. Hajdu Janos and Zsolt Bodnar, the director and deputy director of Hungary’s Anti-Terrorism Unit, said, “Guns like these are highly illegal to transport even if they were to used as stage guns, which hopefully they weren’t.”
A World War Z spokesperson told E! News, “We are working with the authorities to resolve the matter and have no further comment at this time.”
With a production of this magnitude, carrying fully functioning automatic weapons is a dangerous error that can have life-altering consequences.
The police are currently interviewing witnesses and trying to get to the bottom of this mixup.
