It’s the Holy Grail of reunions! The surviving members of the legendary Monty Python troupe are coming together for the first time in almost 15 years to make a sci-fi farce that’ll combine CG and live action, dogs and aliens, complete with, I’m sure, a silly walk or two.
Absolutely Anything is the name of the flick, and it’ll be directed by Life of Brian’s Terry Jones from a script he’s been developing (with Gavin Scott) for 20 years. So far, Terry Gilliam, John Cleese and Michael Palin are all set to provide voices for Absolutely Anything, and producers are attempting to get Eric Idle on board to play, in Variety’s words:
A group of aliens who endow an earthling with the power to do “absolutely anything” to see what a mess he’ll make of things—which is precisely what happens. There’s also a talking dog named Dennis who seems to understand more about the mayhem that ensues than anyone else does.
Robin Williams will play said Earthling, but don’t let that scare you off. It’s the bloody Pythons, together again. (No word yet what the late Graham Chapman will play, but given that during the Pythons’ last reunion, at 1998’s Aspen Comedy Festival, his urn was used as something of a prop, I wouldn’t bet against him playing a role.)
