Fox gearing up to adapt another Asimov robot murder mystery

The Caves of Steel Coming to the Big ScreenBy Marc Bernardin, Source: Blastr.com

It’s been a while since Will Smith took down an android conspiracy in I, Robot—or, in Mexico, Yo, Robot—so Fox is going back to the Isaac Asimov well for another metallic go-round.

The book of choice is Asimov’s 1954 novel The Caves of Steel, and Sherlock Holmes writer Simon Kinberg is on board to produce. Caves will be directed by rookie Henry Hobson (a graphic designer who makes title sequences for films like, yes, Sherlock Holmes) and written by John Scott 3 (who, when not toiling on scripts like the upcoming zombie flick Maggie, writes code for NASA).

Asimov wrote Caves of Steel, in part, as a response to legendary sci-fi editor John W. Campbell’s assertion that mystery and science fiction couldn’t be combined in a meaningful way. The fact that Caves was the first of four beloved, groundbreaking novels featuring human detective Elijah Baley and his robot partner R. Daneel Olivaw proved Asimov right.
