Apparently, at this very moment, not even Benicio Del Toro knows who the villain will be in the next Star Trek movie, and he’s been meeting with JJ Abrams about the role. Surely he must have some kind of hunch? Surely there’s an obvious good fit for him in the canon somewhere?
Don’t look at me for clues. My knowledge of Star Trek canon is probably only about knee-to-thigh deep. The only roles I know and would be really comfortable ruling out would be that of the Borg Queen, Dr. Janice Lester or a Tribble.
According to Variety, Del Toro will be offered the role imminently. I imagine his contract would come with the mother of NDAs, especially if the actor has had his meetings with the director and not even been trusted with the character’s name.
Production is expected to kick off early next year from a script by Alex Kurtzman, Bob Orci and Damon Lindelof. If you seen any of them around, you could take some pressure off of poor Mr. Del Toro by getting them in a headlock and rubbing the top of their head with your knuckles until they spill all.
